This list will inspire you a lot.
If you have not started a blog yet, this list will convince you that a blog can be a source of passive income and most importantly, it will motivate you in many ways depending on how you take this information.
Please note, if you want to start a blog differently from these topics, you can also be profitable. The success of your blog will depend on so many factors. Read my article here to learn more about finding and deciding on the best topics for your blog.
But to get you inspired, these blog topics are essentials for you to know.
I will list the most popular topics and the example of successful blogs on those topics.
Most Popular Blog Topics
- Frugal living
- Make Money
Now you know the topics, so let see why these topics are profitable and which blogs are getting success from it.
Finance is an evergreen topic. People always seek for financial tips that can help them free from debt, save money or grow more.
They want to have advice from someone who is an expert in the field.
This is where finance blogger steps in.
Are you an expert in the finance niche?
You can start a blog about saving money, credit card reviews, or personal lending.
In case you are not an expert, it is still possible to build a blog around the topics, but I suggest you don’t do that and better start with other topics.
Although finance is one of the most popular blog topics, it is not a topic that a regular person can quickly build. If you are not an expert, you have no legality or expertise, and because of it, people will tend to not believe in your suggestions.
To emphasize this, let me share with few examples of successful financial blogs so you can see how complex and challenging it is to create one.
But if you want to start a financial blog while you are not certified, you still can do it, with a twist. Keep reading.
Example of Financial Blogs
Good Financial Cents
The blog started by Jeff Rose. He wrote many tips about paying off debt, how to earn money, best insurances, how to invest, and retirement planning.
First of all, Jeff is not just a regular guy. Check this:
As you can see, he is a Certified Financial Planner. When people know the fact that Jeff is an expert, they will trust whatever Jeff’s said about financial planning.
In his latest income report, Jeff reported a total income of $151.169.01 from his financial blog.
But take a look at Jeff’s content, these are not the content that a person without a certified licence can create.
Yeah, it just too difficult to follow.
So again, the success rate of a financial blog much depends on the expertise of the person behind it.
If you are someone like Jeff, don’t waste more time, start your blog today with the finance tips as its fuel.
If You Are Not Certified
Many bloggers get success from starting what they called as a financial blog, where it is actually not a typical financial blog like what Jeff’s has.
These are the blogs with a content mixture between financial tips and other topics.
The best example of this will be the Making Sense of Cents blog. As stated on her about page, the blog is a personal finance and lifestyle blog.
So Michelle combined lifestyle content such as ‘Living In A Boat or RV? What is Better?’ Or ’40 Ideas That Will Help You Learn How To Live Your Best Life” with some financial content such as ‘30+ Ways to Save Money Each Month’ or ‘Why Saving Money in Your 20s Is A Good Idea’.
Michelle is not certified or accredited as Jeff does, but she manages to create a very successful blog on the finance niche. In 2018 alone, according to her income report, she brings over $1.500.000 from her blog.
Key takeaway: If you are not an expert on the finance topic, start a blog with other topics first, then add financial topics into it.
Hopefully, you get inspired.
The idea behind the travel blog is to create a blog while travelling the world and generate passive income from it.
To create a travel blog, you should be a traveller yourself. Every place you visit will ignite your blog posts and content.
How if you are not traveller? Well, it seems that creating a travel blog is not make sense to do.
But on the smallest scale, you can create a blog about the city where you live today. However, it also not possible if you don’t explore your city much.
So my biggest advice about a travel blog is, stay away from creating one if you are not traveller yourself.
Example of successful bloggers in the travel niche is Kara and Nate. They not only getting profit from their travel blog but from their Youtube channel too. In their last income report, they banked a total income of $149.087.
Are you a traveller?
If so, and you don’t have a blog yet, then you leave too many money on the table. Start one now.

There are plenty of lifestyle topics on this planet. Most of the time, every topic is a lifestyle topic.
Take the Travel topic as an example. Travelling is a lifestyle. The Finance topic is a lifestyle too since it best suited to people who want to be better financially so they can support their lifestyle.
Beauty, food, hobbies are few of lifestyle topics.
I put Lifestyle topic as one of the most popular blog topics because I want you to know that you can build a blog around your lifestyle if you onto one.
Are you a rapper? You can build a blog about how to rap. Are you a surfer? A Freelancer? Yes, you can create a blog around your topic.
But, if you want to do it, you need to check if your lifestyle blog will make you money or not. There is a checklist for this, and you can read it right here.
Few examples of Lifestyle blog are:
- Abby from Just A Girl and Her blog – $41.700 according to her last income report
- Ana from The She Approach reach her $100.000 from blogging.

Health is an evergreen topic. Health is one of the most popular blog topics that usually a new blogger will after due to the high margin profit it can generate for them.
Just like with the Finance topic, most bloggers who started their health blog is an actual health expert or practitioner.
When I said practitioner, I didn’t mean they just doctors and specialists only. Practitioners can be a football coach, fitness trainer, bodybuilding enthusiasts or supplement experts.
Most bloggers on the health niche are making good money from recommending products through affiliate links, sell their instructional videos or product and ads revenue from various ad networks.
However, competition is fierce on this particular topic. To survive and make money from this topic, you need to niche down. You need to create a blog on the health subtopic or target a more specific audience.
I show you two examples now.
Fit Mom Journey
Gretchen is the girl behind the the blog, and instead of making general health blog, she creates a health blog that laser target a specific audience. Although Gretchen understand that health in general is one of the most popular blog topics to write, she hold herself by not to jump into the general.
She is targeting mom who would like to learn more about Keto and get benefit from it.
So she wrote about Keto, Ketogenic recipes, and she also recommending Keto products.
She managed to generate $9.147 on January 2019 according to her last income report.
Organize Yourself Skinny
A mom named Tammy started the blog. She is a busy mom, but she managed to lose weight heavily by change her life into a healthy lifestyle. Through her blog, she then targets similar mom who having same problem with her; busy and need to loss weight effectively.
So she shared her experience and what she is currently doing to maintain a healthy lifestyle while keep on shape.
She does this by write various healthy meal plans, diet recipes and simple exercises.
If you visit her blog, you will quickly found that she generate money by placing display ads around her content.
Not only that, but she also make good money by selling her ebook and meal plans. In her last income report, I found that she make $13.000 on that month alone. And that’s from 2016.
She makes her new income hidden now, but judge from her traffic data which you can easily get from SimilarWeb.com, I assumed that she still manages to make from $10.000-$25000 every month.
The health industry is huge. In fact, my first website is in the health niche. You might not believe that the first product I sold as an affiliate is a breast enlargement pills. It converts in a great rate.
Key takeaway: If you want to create a successful health blog, try to target specific people just like I showed you above.
Most successful food blogger generate income from ads displayed on their blog. Every time that ads clicked, they get paid for it.
As addition to ads revenue, food blogger tend to sell recipes. More and more food bloggers connect their blog into an online shop or to Amazon as their preferred platform to sell their recipes or books.
I think that food bloggers are the most creative minds out there. They often create their own recipes, take photograph of it, post meaningful articles or create step by step videos and post them on Youtube or embed in on their blog.
It is funny too that most food bloggers are woman while in the real world, chefs are usually men.
It’s hard finding a food blog that operate by male blogger. In the case of Pinch of Yum, a leading food blog, the blog operate by couples and since it became bigger and bigger, more people work for the blog.
Most of you will be start without help, you need to do everything own you own. Although you are a cooking genius, you need to be genius too in many aspects like food photography or videography.
It is hard to start. The cost of being a food blogger is not an average person could afford in the first place.
Same as travel blog which required travel expenses, food blogger should at least spent hundreds.
Take A Sassy Spoon blog as example, Jamie Silva the owner, spent around $2000-$3500/month for food expenses.
If you start food blog in today’s Internet arena, it way more difficult then if you started 5-10 years ago.
So although food blog is evergreen topics and will always be one of the most popular blog topics, it is challenging than ever.
So my advice will be, if you truly passionate to blog about food, make sure this food blog is not something you hope will make a return in quick way.
And make sure you have enough capital to support the blog. This means, if you still in 9-5 job, keep doing it, make this blog as a side hustle, at least for the beginning.
Taste the hardness level of creating a food blog, and after one month of trying, you will know if continuing a food blog is your cup of coffee.
I just want to be realistic here. Most advice you’ve heard might be contradict with I have just wrote.
But if you serious to have a food blog, ask your partner or friends or siblings to get started with you.
It is to hard to handle a food blog by yourself. Combining powers also mean you get bigger budget to support the blog.
If you more serious about it, ask more people who you might know that also passionate about food.
Don’t start by thinking of how much you make, but start by thinking how much work you should do and how many hours you should spent. If all seem reasonable for you, you are good to go.
